WhatsApp’s latest update has introduced a new feature which looks a lot like Snapchat! This feature, called ‘Status’ allows users to edit and post images, videos and GIFs that disappear after 24 hours.
WhatsApp is owned by Facebook and the ‘Status’ feature is strikingly similar to its competitor app Snapchat. The introduction of the new feature follows the roll-out of identical features in Facebook’s own mobile app and also in Instagram which is also owned by Facebook.
It seems that Facebook has given a clear indication to its competitors that it wants to be the social media platform of choice for all users and is not ashamed to copy successful features of other apps. With its reach across the globe, Facebook certainly has the potential to give Snapchat a run for its money!
It remains to be seen how Snapchat will react to Facebook’s call for a duel but we can certainly see the competition heating up in the social media industry!
