Babies and toddlers are perhaps the most innocent creatures on this planet. At the time of birth and for many years after that, human beings are uncorrupted by the evils of this world and remain oblivious to the everyday hassles that plague their adult counterparts. You might say that it’s not a fair comparison because kids don’t have to worry about paying the bills or about getting up in the morning to go to a job they hate or about the worsening political or economic situation of the world. But is it really necessary for even adults to fret about each aspect of their lives, every minute of the day?

Just think how amazing life would be if we could all just take a leaf out of the life of a toddler and learn to be a little carefree. So here’s a list of things that I think we can all learn from kids and perhaps make our lives a little less stressful:

1. Love unconditionally:
Kids never love or hate you for the way you look or for what you do or are capable of doing for them. Wouldn’t it be just awesome if we could all be like that and stop burdening the people we love with unreasonable expectations? In fact, lower expectations mean that you give yourself more chance of being pleasantly surprised every now and again.

2. Be open about your feelings:
If a kid is happy he will let you know, if he is sad he will let you know, if he wants something he will let you know and if he likes or dislikes something he will let you know. Conclusion? Don’t keep people guessing and be open about your feelings!

3. If at first you don’t succeed, try again:
We are probably most resilient when we are kids and as we get older failures tend to knock us down quicker and harder than ever before. Maybe it would just be easy if we learnt to take failure in our stride, stood back up and just tried again… Something little kids are very good at!

4. Anything can be an adventure:
When we are younger everything seems like a new adventure and every new experience is something worth cherishing but somewhere along the path of growing up we forget about enjoying our life and the adventures just die out completely. Maybe once in a while we can think of a day at the office as a mighty quest rather than treating it as a mundane task!

5. Always ignore what other people think or say:
Have you ever seen a kid stressing over what other people think of him/her? Right! Kids really don’t care about other people’s opinions about them so it doesn’t really bother them as well. That might be one reason that depression among toddlers is at an all-time low!

6. You need to learn to walk before you can dream of flying:
Success in life does not come easily and you have to work hard to get where you are going. The term ‘baby steps’ literally means a tentative act or measure which is the first stage in a long or challenging process so, simply put, learn to walk before you can dream of flying!

7. When in doubt, run to mommy/daddy:
No matter how old you get or how successful you become, your parents will always be your parents and at the end of the day they will always have your best interests at heart. So if you need advice, help or just a shoulder to cry on, just run to mommy or daddy because they still know best!
